Our success is built on having brilliant branch and support teams who deliver excellent customer service day in, day out. Our Apprenticeship Scheme is a way of introducing a new generation of future stars to our business and the opportunities we provide are worth serious consideration for anyone looking to begin or develop a rewarding career in a customer-focused business.
Our two-year Apprenticeship Scheme will give you an opportunity to gain a well-rounded knowledge of your chosen area of our business. You will be given all the on-the-job training, support and guidance necessary to complete your Level 2 qualification and establish yourself as an important member of our team. In addition to this, you will be earning £5 per hour - significantly more than you would on other Apprenticeship programmes.
We offer Apprenticeships in Trade Business Services, Customer Services, Hire Counter Operations, Wood Machining, Finance and other areas too.
We recruit Apprentices all year round and advertise the vacancies as they come up on our website.

Mickayla was working as a chef before she decided that she wanted a new challenge and joined Buildbase Southend as an Apprentice. Working in a Builder’s Merchant was new to her and Mickayla was given a training programme designed to help her settle in to her new role.
To begin with Mickayla worked in the yard. With her new colleagues around to guide and support, Mickayla was shown how a busy yard operates on a daily basis and before long she was confidently serving customers and dealing with their queries. Mickayla is now working in the sales office designing kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
As well as completing her Level 2 Diploma in Trade Business Services, Mickayla has become a trained first aider and attended courses on Advanced Kitchen Design.
In the words of Mickayla, “I am very pleased with the help and support that I have received from all my work colleagues and managers…I have unlimited opportunities to progress and develop my own skills”.
Amber completed her Apprenticeship at our Plumbase branch in Plymouth in 2015. After working on the trade counter for the first couple of months, where she got to know the products and customer requirements, Amber then helped out in the showroom before she was given a desk in the sales office.
Now that Amber has completed her Apprenticeship she has become a full time sales advisor who helps customers in the branch and over the telephone every day.
We were delighted when Amber won the Builders Merchants Federation Apprentice of the Year Award in September 2015 in recognition of her hard work, dedication and the high expectations she sets herself every day.
Amber would recommend apprenticeships to anyone considering an alternative to full time further education as the learning style really suited her and the programme has helped her a clear career path going forward.
